Orienteering Shoes
While running shoes are ok for Orienteering beginners, they wear quickly in WA's rugged terrain, and their thicker soles (designed to support your body on roads) can lead to ankle injuries in rough terrain. In Winter, running shoes do not have great grip on mud, wet logs and rock surfaces.
Orienteering shoes do not need the supportive soles and heels required for road running. They have a lower profile and are more stable on uneven surfaces. With rubber and/or metal studs, they also have better grip.
We recommend the Inov-8 range of shoes from Britain, and Icebug shoes from Sweden.
Now is the time to buy orienteering shoes, with exchange rates working in Australia's favour. Prices on old stock have been reduced to clear.

Gaiters
Protect your lower leg and shins from shrubs, fallen timber and rocks. Silva (only small sizes available), Aries, Vavrys and VJ gaiters are padded at the front, and also help to prevent seeds and twigs lodging in your shoes.
Vavrys socks with padding at the front are also available.
