Short Distance (or Sprint) Orienteering involves competitors starting at intervals and using a map to navigate on foot around a series of control points, in a set order, as quickly as possible. The map is large scale, resulting in relatively quick decision making compared to normal ‘bush’ orienteering. The courses are usually set in parkland or in detailed urban environments such as university campuses. No compass or prior orienteering experience is necessary!
Procedure
• Start times are over a one hour period at 1 min. intervals
• Register and be allocated a start time
• Familiarise yourself with a display copy of the map (does not show the course)
• At your start time, collect your competition map and complete the course!
• Results are displayed on the day, and on our web site
