Middle Distance State Championships
(Guidelines for 2008)
This event has equal status with the Sprint State Championships and Long Distance State Championships.
It is a Badge event, on the OA calender, and forms part of the State Series so its results can be used towards determining Orienteers of the Year.
OA Competition Rules relevant to Group B events, as modified for OAWA shall apply.
Advertising should draw attention to these points.
Courses and age classes
For the style of courses required see OA Competition Rules, Appendix 8: Event Format, section 2.1.
In WA, courses are meant to take about half the time to complete compared with the usual Badge ones.
The winning times will vary between the age classes on each Hard course, but Setters should aim for an average across the expected range for each course.
The relative course lengths are a guide only, based on those used at the other events where we have three Hard courses.
Beware that previous kilometre rates on any particular map may be misleading as other events will have included longer legs and more open running than your courses should. If in doubt make them short.
